“I will continue to fight until every one of these soldiers receives the benefits they deserve for standing on the front lines against terrorism to defend this nation.”

That’s what Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas vowed on “Fox and Friends” Friday morning — the GOP presidential contender was talking about some Fort Hood shooting victims being denied the benefits that normally come with the Purple Hearts they’re finally receiving.

Since the deadly shooting in which 13 people were killed and more than 30 wounded in a terror attack carried out by Palestinian-American Army Major Nidal Hasan, victims and their families have pressured the military for Purple Hearts. Sen. Cruz has helped lead that successful fight on Capitol Hill.

Now, in addition to his criticism of the military’s initial decision to characterize the Fort Hood attack as “workplace violence,” Cruz is blasting the Pentagon’s refusal to provide certain Fort Hood victims with the benefits they were expecting.

“It is outrageous and it’s indefensible,” [Cruz] said. “One of the reasons we fought so hard to pass the legislation to require the Purple Hearts to be awarded is precisely so that these soldiers get the benefits they deserve.

It shouldn’t have taken five years; this should have happened five years ago.”
